In the last decade,
the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published guidelines
setting forth the requirements for clean drinking water and the need to
reduce non-point source pollution (NPSP) to keep our waters
clean.
One of the greatest
contributors to the pollution of our water systems is the run-off of
granulated fertilizers, with fertigation, this risk is
eliminated. The EPA is currently looking at ways to reduce
the pollutants to the Chesapeake Bay; one of the largest pollutants to
the Chesapeake Bay is the use of granulated fertilizers on our lawns
and landscapes.
Traditional methods of
applying granular fertilizers and other chemicals (herbicides,
pesticides etc.) leave much to be desired as compared to newer
application techniques using fertigation.
This method of application
results in uneven nutrient delivery due to uneven dissolving of the
fertilizer granules. This method of drop or broadcast
fertilizing also increases the danger of burning plant leaves and root
systems due to the uneven and uncontrolled release of fertilizer.
Traditional methods of
fertilizer applications are normally carried out every 4 to 6 weeks,
this results in a “feast or famine” situation, wherein the landscape
material is typically getting fed once during this time
period. Using fertigation the landscape is being fed each
time that you water.
Fertigation
is an environmentally safe and effective way to maintain your
landscape. It is a proven technology designed to reduce waste
of fertilizer as well as an effective method to deliver soil
amendments, pest control as well as deliver micro dosage amounts of
liquid fertilizer to your lawn and landscape.
The
patented EZ-FLO Fertigation system has successfully adapted the key
delivery aspects required for fertigation to the homeowner, commercial
and municipal landscapes. They have incorporated
fertigation's proven benefits into an easy to use, reliable and
maintenance-free system for residential and commercial properties as
well as for nurseries and growers.
